The Institute for Public Accuracy--a U.S.-based consortium of policy researchers, scholars, and activists--engages in consistent media outreach so that progressive voices in the United States and elsewhere in the world can be heard in a wide range of news media. At no cost to grassroots organizations, IPA increases their reach and capacity to address public policy in mainstream media outlets. The Institute for Public Accuracy gains media access for those whose voices are commonly excluded or drowned out by government or corporate-backed institutions. In the process, IPA widens media exposure for progressive perspectives on many issues including the environment, human rights, foreign policy, economic justice, war, and the unfulfilled potential for peace.
We support IPA's media outreach promoting alternatives to escalation of the war in Afghanistan amid official momentum for increased military action. Since the aftermath of 9/11, IPA has been providing news outlets with a steady supply of experts on Afghanistan, who go against the grain of conventional wisdom in Washington. At this time of escalation, IPA is working to intensify its media outreach by providing the voices of credible policy analysts with the capacity to articulate prudent options--rather than continued reliance on military force to address problems that cannot be solved by military means. By challenging the standard logic of the “war on terror,” IPA’s experts will continue to be heard via radio, television and other outlets, helping to fill the media gap that has failed to provide counterweights to the ongoing messages that have put U.S. policy toward Afghanistan and Pakistan on the foreign-policy equivalent of “automatic pilot.”
