World-renowned National Geographic photojournalist Reza founded AïNA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing the civil roots of peace, freedom, and democracy in Afghanistan through the promotion of independent cultural expression. cultures of resistance IN ACTION is proud to support AïNA in its efforts to rebuild Afghanistan’s civil society, and especially to promote the education and empowerment of women and children, the country’s most vulnerable citizens.

cultures of resistance IN ACTION is proud to support this unique festival, which brings the work of poets committed to promoting peace and social justice to the wider public. Since 1991, the Medellin International Poetry Festival has established itself as one of the largest of its kind in the world, bringing the voices of 863 poets from nearly 150 nations to Colombia.
Teaching A People's History
cultures of resistance IN ACTION is honored to contribute to Howard Zinn's legacy by joining forces with The Zinn Education Project, which works to educate youth about the history of grassroots struggle in the U.S., and to harness the potential of Professor Zinn's works to transform the teaching of American history. Supporting Young Women's Education in Mozambique
The Lee & Gund Foundation is excited to engage in an innovative and long-term educational partnership with the prestigious, Maputo-based Lurdes Mutola Foundation. A three-year grant has been dedicated to the new Mais Escola para Mim ("More School for Me") program, the objective of which is to increase the number of girls and young women who graduate from secondary schools in Mozambique, particularly in rural parts of the country.
